The Life of Liam Farrell
EARLY LIFE
Liam Farrell was born in 1932 in Bornacoola, Co Leitrim to James and Mary Farrell.
The family relocated to Rooskey, Co Leitrim, in 1947, where Liam remained until his untimely death in 2020. Liam was a well-respected member of the Rooskey community, and his life was marked by hard work, dedication to family, and a strong connection to his local roots.
Liam grew up with his two brothers, Mel and Michael (RIP), in Meelragh, Bornacoola, Co. Leitrim. While his brothers immigrated to England in the 1950s, Liam remained in Ireland and worked the family farm in Rooskey with his father.

In 1959, Liam married Maureen, with whom he shared his life until her passing in 2002. Their marriage lasted 43 years, during which time they built a loving life together in Rooskey. They were blessed with five children - Jim, Anne, Willie, Peter, and Brendan and 18 grandchildren.
Career and Work Ethic
Liam's strong work ethic was evident throughout his life. He began working at Hanley's meat factory in Rooskey in 1953, where he remained a dedicated employee for 44 years until his retirement in 1997. Alongside his factory work, Liam continued to manage the family farm.

Liam actively participated in local community affairs.
He maintained a keen interest in politics throughout his life and served as chairman of the local Fianna Fáil Cumann for many years.
Liam was a devout member of the Catholic church evidenced by his attendance at daily mass in Bornacoola.
